The cellar of the Guild of Sommeliers is a magical spot, sort
of a Room of Requirement for wine lovers everywhere.
Need some of Marc Colin’s Montrachet ? Think hard and it is
yours. Having a 2005 Bordeaux emergency? Voilà! The Pontet-
Canet or Léoville Poyferré appear. We’ve yet to meet a real life
Harry Potter, but the Guild of Sommeliers has indeed offered an
otherworldly lot in his absence.
The lot itself is breathtaking, spanning vintages and regions, true.
The producers are world-class, A-list, and all that. What is even
more remarkable— if that’s possible—is how each wine elevates the
other selections in the lot. Much like a well-spoken sommelier can
decode the mysteries within the glass and bottle, unveiling the life
and breath of the wine, these wines become almost supernatural
in the context of each other.
