TURNING 40 CAN BE TRAUMATIC, BUT 1975
LA MISSION IS BREEZING ALONG.
P
arker calls this “undisputably THE wine of the vintage.”
Though 1975 isn’t particularly exalted, this La Mission 1975
is peerless among the best of Bordeaux.
It consistently received
perfect scores in its first thirty years of life, and remains a vibrant,
vital wine. It comes from a cool year with a tiny crop, yet is still
nicely balanced with tannins and density.
That summer, La Mission’s extraordinary
terroir
, with its well-
drained, gravelly soils fared unbelievably well. Even while much
of the fat has faded away, the wine still possesses a vitality and
vigor that belies age. The color is a dark garnet with just a touch
of lightning at the rim.
This all-star, 100-point wine is very
concentrated, dense and remarkably youthful, likely drinking
gorgeously for many decades. May we all be so lucky.
Note: Bottles are one top shoulder level and two high shoulder level with
two labels slightly bin soiled.
