A MARGAUX VERTICAL THAT BEGINS AND ENDS
WITH 99-POINT WINES.
J
ourney through these astounding years of ChâteauMargaux.
The amazing vintage of 1982 heralded the new golden age of
Bordeaux, marking both the beginning of a run of truly extraordinary
vintages and the nascent opening of the Classified-Growth market
to international acquisition on a massive scale.
The 1982 wine itself
is powerful and fleshy, with a rich dense bouquet of roasted
black currants, sweet truffles and blooming violets, boasting a
99-point ranking.
The
1986
, by comparison might be juicier and
more brooding, yet almost as elegant in the mid-palate and upon
the finish. The 1990s were blessed with several remarkable vintages,
with
1994
and
1998
being two of them that stood out for excellent
structure and finesse. But the
2003
stands out among the group,
with a
99 fromParker and density that’s unparalleled by any
recent Margaux vintage
. The tightly knit tannic structure gives this
wine a silken quality that creates an irresistible allure.
This is an
excellent selection of some of the finest first-growth Bordeaux
that can be found, anywhere.
Note: Top shoulder level for vintages 1982, 1986 and 1994.
