“WHO WOULD SAY NO TO THIS?”
— DEBBY JANNOTTA
T
hese bottles of
Château Pavie 2003
are a deep crimson color
which borders on black. The nose reflects the hot vintage,
with a very concentrated bouquet of blackberry, juicy cherries,
jam, and a touch of understated toasty aromas that frame the ripe
fruit. It’s a powerful and rich beauty, with a suave texture with a
certain overripe quality giving an impression of sweetness in an
otherwise dry wine. Parker found it to be youthful and rich with
terrific purity and texture as well as a striking opulence, hence the
almost perfect score of 99 points
. The lively acidity also adds to
the depth while excellent, firm tannins underpin the concentration
and richness. This Pavie will benefit greatly from decanting ahead
of time to allow it to unveil its many charms.
One of the oldest Médoc wine estates, Château Léoville-Las-
Cases’s
terroir
has been at the heart of their exquisite wines since
the 17
th
century. A wine prepared for serious aging, the
2010
Château Léoville-Las-Cases is a full-bodied classic Bordeaux
.
Opaque purple in color, this big, concentrated, thick wine is
stuffed with ripe cassis and fresh blackberries. Powerful, tannic,
ripe, fresh and dense, this masculine wine requires serious cellar
time to become civilized.
If its 100-point ranking from
Wine
Enthusiast
is any indication, the cellar time will be worth it.
