DOMAINE DE LA ROMANÉE-CONTI (DRC) IS WIDELY

CONSIDERED AMONG THE WORLD’S GREATEST

WINE PRODUCERS, AND THESE BOTTLES ARE

AMONG THE WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE.

I

t takes its name from the domaine’s most famous vineyard.

Romanée-Conti is situated in the Vosne-Romanée appellation of

Burgundy. It’s a treasure to come across these rare vintages. The

1988 is decadently rich and spicy with an extraordinary perfume

of violets, gamey, plum-like fruit, and toasty new oak. The finish is

impossibly long, lasting seemingly for several minutes. A few years

later, the 1995 is a more austere and masculine wine with a certain

density that is remarkable. It offers superb black fruit flavors

and a firm tannic backbone. You will have delusions or visions of

grandeur as you sip these wines since they might be the most regal

of all of Burgundy.
