THE AMBASSADOR’S FAVORITES
T
hese twelve bottles are a decadent tour of Bordeaux’s
best properties in mature vintages.
Of the first growths,
1981 Margaux was given 95 points by
Wine Spectator
, and stands
the test of time for elegance and longevity. As has perhaps been
mentioned previously,
1982 Pichon Lalande is a 100-point bottle
of perfection. The 1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Margaux,
and Latour
would make for an outstanding horizontal tasting
experience. Each of these wines is in its prime, and all scored
strongly in the 95-96 point range for Parker. Latour is a particular
favorite of Robert Parker. “A beauty, the opaque dense purple-
colored 1995 exhibits jammy cassis, vanillin, and minerals in its
fragrant but still youthful aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, with
exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe,
40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour.”
