LESSON NUMBER TWO.

he Sonoma Coast AVA is remarkable territory that in

part reveals a dramatic influence on this perfect scoring

Chardonnay. It runs along the coastline of Sonoma County,

but its boundaries veer sharply inland just east of Bodega Bay,

and then spread southwards and eastwards into the Petaluma

Watershed. The land has but 2% planted to grapes and the plots

are widely dispersed across the more than 500,000 acres that

make up the region.

Marcassin and phenomenal winemaker Helen Turley absolutely

shine year in and year out.

The 2008 is deemed one of the two

or three most profound Chardonnays made in California,

ever

. This 100-point wine would stand proudly at any tasting

of white Burgundies.

It’s unquestionably the Chardonnay of

the Vintage boasting great acid, phenomenal concentration and

staggering length. Drink it now or lay it down until 2026. You

won’t forget this one.
